The dress

As a testimony of their cultural attachment, the traditional costume, created by the Marquis of Baroncelli, is part of the life of the inhabitants.

Guardians wear large black fabric trousers, a colored shirt, a black velvet jacket, a tie and a wide-brimmed hat.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Marquis of Baroncelli defined him this way and gave him a noble pedigree.

Young ladies wear the Mireille costume until they are 16. When they reach 16, the Festo Vierginenco authorizes them to wear the Arlesian costume and its famous ribbon.

Contrary to the guardians, women only wear their costume during the celebrations.

Indeed, wearing the costume represents the identity of the "Nacioun Gardiano" , which consists in maintaining and glorifying the costume, the ways and customs of Camargue and of the region's love of bull games, carrying on the promotion of the "langue d'Oc" , spreading the provincial poesies doctrine that are in the poetic works of Frédéric Mistral and his disciples.
