Legends and beliefs

Victims of the Christian persecution in Palestine, the Saints were arrested and then abandoned on a boat with neither sails nor rows. Guided by the Providence, they approached the Provençal shore.

The legend says that Mary Jacobé and Mary Salomé, who were close to Jesus and the Virgin Mary, were accompanied by Lazarus, Mary Madeleine, Martha and Maximin. Whereas the disciples left to evangelize the rest of Europe, the Saints, who were older, remained in Les Saintes Maries de la Mer.

Who was Sarah, then? Was she the Saintes’ servant or was she a gypsy girl who welcomed the Saintes on the beach?
