“Thousands of horses, bulls and people are already on the East beach, ready to go! We come every year to attend the Abrivado Festival at Saintes-Maries! After having breakfast on the beach, a glass of wine, some bread and cold meats; we are waiting with eagerness the start of the first herd of bulls… It’s 11am, we can hear coming the sounds of horses’ hooves, the people cheering and here they are galloping: the herdsmen on horseback are escorting the bulls, a few brave people try to make the bulls escape! Rush of adrenaline guaranteed! The show never disappoints, it’s always wonderful!”

An exceptionnal gathering
As tradition require, The Abrivado Festival takes place on the 10th and 11th November every year. The abrivado lies in taking the bulls from the meadow to the arenas. During two days, the herdsmen on horseback will prove their dexterity while escorting the bulls from the East Beach to the village’s arenas. This horses and bulls gathering attracts thousands of visitors that meet along the beach or in the locality “Rousty” where the abrivados start. On the starting line, some organize themselves to enjoy a savory breakfast.
On Novembre 10th, 10 abrivados takes place and on November 11th, 11 abrivados takes place!
At the end of abrivados, the party continues in the bars and restaurants of the village!
